Prosper Lawns: Clay Soil, Zoned Watering and Tight Standards

Prosper straddles Collin and Denton counties, and Collin County’s dominant soil is Blackland clay, which swells after rain and splits open in dry spells. Texas A&M AgriLife recommends a soil test before you make big changes to a lawn here. The Town also sorts homes into three watering zones. From April 1 through October 31 you may water twice a week on your zone’s days, and from November 1 through March 31 once a week. The Town’s rules also bar watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Town also points residents to WaterMyYard for weekly watering recommendations tailored to the area. Yes. Code Compliance enforces high grass and weeds, and the limit is 12 inches.

Do I need HOA approval for a new flower bed in Windsong Ranch?

That decision belongs to the association’s Architectural Review Committee, not to us. Routine mowing doesn’t change the lot, but a new bed or planting is the kind of change that generally needs an application.
